Samsung continues to differentiate from Apple in an effort to win over market share. Its latest development is the world’s first curved smartphone.
According to an article in Bloomberg, the device will be 5.7 inches and is called the Galaxy Round. This is the first step in what will be a series of steps for Samsung. It has been reported that Samsung is toying with technology to potentially produce flexible screens – a sure game changer in the smartphone industry. Imagine a 5.5 inch smartphone that can unfold to an 11inch display. It would be a remarkable feat and it seems like Samsung is well positioned to make that happen. Instead of using glass, Samsung is considering a thin plastic material. “In January, Samsung showed a flexible organic light-emitting diode display that can bend as it plays images and said it has “various mobile application opportunities.”
The round screen feature is intended to enable people to see the device from different angles and be more comfortable in the hands of it users.
It is great to see Samsung and Apple as two technology giants going back and forth. It seems like they are always trying to one up the other and it is great for consumers. We can continue to expect amazing products.
It’ll be interesting to see how much thunder Samsung can steal with their latest smartphone. They continue to introduce new features that are very attractive. Apple had a few amazing years with their iPhones. I wonder as people start to buy new phones how many will continue with Apple or switch over to a new product. Brand loyalty will surely come into question. A longtime Apple customer is probably the hardest customer to convert. Maybe Samsung isn’t concerned with this and would rather pick up a new segment of smartphone users? Either way, their product’s continue to be next best to Apple and it could only be a matter of time before they are no longer playing catch up.
